1) Oración inicial
Señor y Dios nuestro, que has manifestado tu salvación hasta los confines de la tierra; concédenos esperar con alegría la gloria del nacimiento de tu Hijo. Que vive y reina contigo. Amen.
2) Lectura
Del santo Evangelio según Mateo 18,12-14
«¿Qué os parece? Si un hombre tiene cien ovejas y se le descarría una de ellas, ¿no dejará en los montes las noventa y nueve, para ir en busca de la descarriada? Y si llega a encontrarla, os digo de verdad que tiene más alegría por ella que por las noventa y nueve no descarriadas. De la misma manera, no es voluntad de vuestro Padre celestial que se pierda uno solo de estos pequeños.

3) Reflexión
• Una parábola no es una enseñanza que recibir de forma pasiva o que relegar en la memoria, sino que es una invitación para participar en el descubrimiento de la verdad. Jesús empieza diciendo: “¿Qué les parece?” Una parábola es una pregunta con una respuesta no definida. La respuesta depende de nuestra reacción y de la participación de los oyentes. Tratemos de buscar la respuesta a esta parábola de la oveja perdida.
• Jesús cuenta una historia muy breve y muy sencilla: un pastor tiene 100 ovejas, pierde una, deja las otras 99 y va en busca de la oveja perdida. Y Jesús pregunta: “¿Qué les parece?” Es decir: “¿Ustedes harían lo mismo?” ¿Cuál será la respuesta de los pastores y de las demás personas que escuchaban a Jesús que cuenta esta historia? ¿Harían lo mismo? ¿Cual es mi respuesta a la pregunta de Jesús? Pensémoslo bien antes de contestar.
• Si tú tuvieses 100 ovejas y pierdes una de ellas, ¿qué harías? No hay que olvidar que los montes son lugares de difícil acceso, con simas profundas, habitados por animales peligrosos y donde se esconden los ladrones. Y no puedes olvidar que has perdido una oveja, una sola, por consiguiente todavía ¡tienes 99 ovejas! ¡Has perdido poco! ¿Abandonarías a las demás 99 por el monte? Quizás solamente una persona con poco sentido común haría lo que hace el pastor de la parábola de Jesús. ¡Piénsatelo bien!
• Los pastores que escucharon la historia de Jesús, habrán pensado y comentado: “¡Solamente un pastor sin fundamento actúa de este modo!” Seguramente le habrán preguntado a Jesús: “Perdona, pero ¿quién es ese pastor del que estás hablando? Hacer lo que él hizo, es pura locura”
• Jesús contesta: “Este pastor es Dios, nuestro Padre, y la oveja perdida eres tú”. Dicho con otras palabras, aquel que actúa así es Dios movido por su gran amor hacia los pequeños, los pobres, los excluidos. Solamente un amor así de grande es capaz de hacer una locura de este tipo. El amor con que Dios nos ama supera la prudencia y el sentido común. El amor de Dios hace locuras. ¡Gracias a Dios! Si así no fuera, ¡estaríamos perdidos!

1) OPENING PRAYER
Lord our God,
You are near to us

2) GOSPEL READING - MATTHEW 18: 12-14
Jesus said to his disciples: "What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost."
3) REFLECTION
• A parable is not a teaching to be received in a passive way or just to be kept in the memory. Rather, it is an invitation to participate in the discovery of truth. Jesus begins by asking, “What do you think?” A parable is a question with a response which is not defined. The response depends on the reaction and participation of the listeners. Let us then seek the answer to this parable of the lost sheep.
• Jesus tells a very brief story and in a very simple way: a shepherd had 100 sheep, he lost one, and leaves the 99 on the mountain and goes to look for the lost sheep. And Jesus asks, “What do you think?” that is, “Would you do the same?” Which would have been the response of the shepherds and of the other persons who were listening to Jesus tell this story? Would they do the same thing? Which is my answer to Jesus’ question? Let us think well before answering.
• If you had 100 sheep and you lost one, what would you do? We should not forget that mountains are places which are very difficult to climb, with deep precipices, where dangerous animals live and where robbers hide. And you cannot forget that you have lost only one sheep, and therefore, you still have 99! You have lost very little. Would you abandon the other 99 on those mountains? Perhaps, would not only a person with little common sense do what the shepherd of the parable of Jesus did? Think about it!
• The shepherds who heard Jesus’ story perhaps thought and commented, “Only a shepherd without judgment would act that way!” Surely, they would have asked Jesus, “Jesus, excuse us, but who is that shepherd whom You are speaking about? To do what he did is foolish!”
• Jesus answers, “This Shepherd is God, our Father, and the lost sheep is you!” In other words, the one who does this action is God moved by great love for the little ones, for the poor, the excluded! Only a very great love is able to do something so foolish. The love with which God loves us exceeds prudence and good human sense. The love of God commits foolish things. Thank God! If it were not like this, we would be lost!

• Place yourself in the place of the little lost sheep and enliven your faith and your hope. You are that sheep!

• How can we be instruments in God’s effort to return the lost sheep? In this season of harvest celebrations, thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas, with family all around, do we leave to try to help and welcome those that are lost, poor, and without, as this shepherd would?

Martedì - 2ª Settimana d'Avvento
1) Preghiera
O Dio, che hai fatto giungere ai confini della terra il lieto annunzio del Salvatore, fa’ che tutti gli uomini accolgano con sincera esultanza la gloria del suo Natale. Per il nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, tuo Figlio, che è Dio, e vive e regna con te, nell’unità dello Spirito Santo, per tutti i secoli dei secoli.
2) Lettura del Vangelo
Dal Vangelo secondo Matteo 18,12-14
In quel tempo, Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: “Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e ne smarrisce una, non lascerà forse le novantanove sui monti, per andare in cerca di quella perduta?
Se gli riesce di trovarla, in verità vi dico, si rallegrerà per quella più che per le novantanove che non si erano smarrite.
Così il Padre vostro celeste non vuole che si perda neanche uno solo di questi piccoli”.
In quel tempo, Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli: “Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e ne smarrisce una, non lascerà forse le novantanove sui monti, per andare in cerca di quella perduta?

3) Riflessione
• Una parabola non è un insegnamento da ricevere in modo passivo o da rinchiudere nella memoria, bensì è un invito a partecipare alla scoperta della verità. Gesù comincia chiedendo: “Che ve ne pare?” Una parabola è una domanda con una risposta non definita. La risposta dipende dalla reazione e partecipazione degli ascoltatori. Cerchiamo, quindi, la risposta a questa parabola della pecora smarrita.
• Gesù racconta una storia molto breve e molto semplice: un pastore ha 100 pecore, ne perde una, lascia le 99 sulla montagna e va alla ricerca della pecorella smarrita. E Gesù chiede: “Che ve ne pare?” Ossia: “Voi fareste la stessa cosa?” Quale sarà stata la risposta dei pastori e delle altre persone che ascoltavano Gesù raccontare questa storia? Farebbero la stessa cosa? Qual è la mia risposta alla domanda di Gesù? Pensiamo bene prima di rispondere.
• Se tu avessi 100 pecore e ne perdessi una, cosa faresti? Non bisogna dimenticare che le montagne sono luoghi di difficile accesso, con profondi precipizi, abitati da animali pericolosi e dove i ladroni si nascondono. E non puoi dimenticare che hai perso una sola pecora, quindi ne hai ancora 99! Hai perso poco! Abbandoneresti le altre 99 su quelle montagne? Forse solo una persona con poco buon senso farebbe ciò che fece il pastore della parabola di Gesù? Pensatelo bene!

Solamente un amore molto grande è capace di compiere una follia così. L’amore con cui Dio ci ama supera la prudenza ed il buon senso umano. L’amore di Dio commette follie. Grazie a Dio! Se non fosse così, saremmo perduti!
